Day 5 What's Up Challenge - Avoid social media for 24 hours

Why is this good for your emotional health and wellbeing?

Spending too much time on social media can:

  • Stop you having a good night’s sleep
  • Affect your mental health and self-esteem.
  • Make it hard to know what’s real or fake?

Social media is great at connecting us to people, but recent studies have found it can also make you feel lonely!

Social media can cause loneliness as it looks like everyone else is having an amazing time or have it all.

Social media makes it easy to compare yourself to others which increases negative feelings about yourself.

How to complete this challenge?

Take a break from social media.

You may find this a tricky challenge so you could do this together with your friends to avoid FOMO.

Taking a break away from social media doesn’t mean you need to go as far as deleting your account, but log off for one day, one week or longer, and see if taking a break from social media makes you feel more happier?

Three things to remember about social media:

  1. Social media is not true to real life as we tend to only share the best bits of our lives that we want people to see.
  2. Social media is full of fake news and bogus profiles – which makes it impossible to know what and who you can trust.
  3. Images posted on social media are often filtered to make a person look more attractive then they are.
