We spoke to Rosalie who is in year 12 about how to prepare and get the most out of your GCSE year. Here are her top tips!
Tips for going into year 10
- You will probably have a few weeks to try out your chosen GCSE subject – if you feel like it’s not the right thing for you speak up and tell your teachers – don’t be afraid to change your mind (you’re not going to know because you have never taken that subject before)
- Take the opportunity to go along to college/sixth form open days when you can so you don’t leave it all to year 11. It can come along quite quickly!
- Take the opportunity to speak with your teacher/careers advisers about your next steps.
- Use online resources and websites to research subject areas, courses, careers, colleges, apprenticeships.
Tips for going into year 11
- You will be juggling revision and planning your next steps in year 11 and this can come to feel a bit overwhelming. Make a plan early (before Christmas if you can) and take it step by step. After Christmas you will be thinking more about revision.
- If school offers revision session get ahead of the game and go for it! Then when you get home you can do your own thing.
- Continue to make time for the things your enjoy – it’s a good time to stop thinking about exams and have fun.
- Keep your eye on the prize – think ahead to prom and having the whole summer ahead of you. You will get rewarded for the hard work you put in now! It won’t last forever.
- Continue to speak to careers advisers and teacher so you have a back up plan if anything changes.
