Would you like to be a candidate for UKYP elections?

Young People of Suffolk!

Elections are just around the corner and we are looking for candidates to come forward and stand in the election to become a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP).

The Youth Parliament is a fab platform to make your voice heard and opens lots of doors. The UKYP campaigns on the top Make Your Mark* issue– this year it’s ‘Health and Wellbeing’. Last year it was ‘Protect the Environment’.

Here’s an idea of what MYPs have done recently:

  • MYPs have set up a Suffolk Youth Parliament Forum which meets monthly online for young people to speak directly to their MYPs and find out more about what’s going on. See below for details.
  • MYPs have endorsed Suffolk County Council’s website for young people, by young people www.thesource.me.uk as being the place for young people to go for information about health and wellbeing support in Suffolk.
  • They presented to the Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Board at Suffolk County Council and asked for young people to be supported through the Cost of Living Crisis. See them speaking here (from 2:06:00) Item 8: Suffolk County Council, Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Board – 19 January 2023 – YouTube  and their vlog afterwards here: Health and Wellbeing Board Video Blog January 2023 – YouTube
  • They gave a workshop at Suffolk’s first Youth Climate Change Conference and fed back young people’s views to the Environment Committee at Suffolk County Council.
  • DMYP Callum attended Newmarket’s Youth Fair and collected young people’s views and fed back to Newmarket’s Youth Action Group.
  • DMYP Kelsey attended British Youth Council’s Youth Convention in London
  • MYPs attended UK Youth Parliament Conferences at Leeds and Hull Universities and met and debated with MYPs from around the county.
  • MYP Will spoke in the House of commons about the Cost of Living Crisis and is part of the British Youth Council Social Action Group for the Food for Learning Campaign.
