Pros and Cons of Home Schooling

A young person put together this list of pros and cons of home-schooling for us (Thank you :)).

The Pros and Cons of Home Education:

Pros:

  1. I get to organise my own timetable
  2. I have lots more time to explore and follow my interests, and learn about subjects that I might not be able to learn about at school at my age.
  3. I feel more free to be who I want to be, for example, I can wear my own clothes every day and listen to music while I’m learning.
  4. I get to meet a greater variety of people because I go to lots of different clubs and classes where there are often children of all ages.

Cons:

  1. If you used to go to school before home educating it might be harder staying connected with your old school friends.
  2. Some of the subjects you are able to study for GCSE may be limited – this depends on the access you have to tutoring and resources to complete the course like Design and Technology.
  3. I can’t think of any other cons because I love home education!

Home education really works for me, but it was a big decision and it was really helpful for me and my family to speak to other home educating families to find out more about it.

The Suffolk HE facebook group is a great place to connect with local home educators for more information.

You can read more about elective home education on the Infolink website: Suffolk InfoLink | Elective Home Education (EHE)
