A message from Suffolk’s new UK Youth Parliament representative for Ipswich & Babergh, Poppy Grace
“Hi, I’m Poppy Grace and here’s what I’ve been up to during my first month as MYP for Ipswich and Babergh. I started off having a meeting with the Suffolk MYP’S, where we as a team spoke about one of our priorities, SEN children.
We had the pleasure of meeting Sarah Jayne the executive director of children and young people’s services for Suffolk where we voiced our opinions on what we think should change and what is working well.
During the following week I attended a meeting regarding the pride of place project where select areas in Ipswich have been granted an amazing £20,000,000 budget to improve the community. In this meeting I spoke to people from wide age ranges and voiced ideas I thought would be good for young people. I have had some group calls with youth group members including Darell from the Aspire Black Suffolk group who are campaigning about racist stop and searches, and I plan to work alongside this youth group to change this appalling treatment young black boys are receiving.
We then had an online team meeting regarding our annual conference in Hull set for August which we are super excited for, and I completed some training sessions too. I have also joined the brave futures youth board. brave futures is a charity for young survivors of sexual abuse and I and the group are working on things we want to change regarding the failing system for young victims of sexual abuse.
Lastly, I visited the future is female group on Out reaches 20th birthday where I and the girls discussed their ideas of what is working well and what isn’t for young people in society.
This month has been amazing, and I have loved getting to meet the other MYP’S and hear my constituents’ voices, there is much more to come in the future.”
