Why is this good for your emotional health and wellbeing?

Research shows that helping others can be good for our mental health. It reduces stress, improves our emotional well-being and even benefits our physical health – doing good is good for us.

How to complete this challenge

Keep an eye out for an opportunity to help someone with a random act of kindness.

20 acts of kindness you could do today:

  1. Call a friend that you haven’t spoken to for a while
  2. Send a letter to a grandparent
  3. Treat your friend to a hot chocolate drink
  4. Tell your family members how much you appreciate them
  5. Help your parents/carers with a household chore or food shopping
  6. Make a donation to a charity
  7. Offer to help cook dinner
  8. Make a cup of tea or coffee for your parents/carers/grandparents
  9. Sign up to do voluntary work in your local community
  10. Text someone you know a nice joke to cheer them up
  11. Send someone you know a picture of a cute animal
  12. Send an inspirational quote to a friend
  13. Send a motivational text to a friend
  14. Say thank you to shop assistants when paying at the till
  15. Sit next to someone different at lunch
  16. Pick up litter
  17. Smile and say hello to someone you have never spoken to before
  18. Return a lost item to its owner
